Independent artists, The Brummies, made up of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, and drummer Trevor Davis, have been playing together in various incarnations since high school, growing up together outside of Birmingham, AL. The members count the Beatles, Elton John, ELO, Blitzen Trapper and My Morning Jacket among their influences, but also have an affinity for sweeping film soundtracks. Their trademark sound evokes the psych-rock vibe of the Sixties and the soft indie-folk of the Nineties, yet possesses a timeless quality all its own. Previous album Eternal Reach was recorded at Battle Tapes Recording in Nashville with Grammy-winning engineer Jeremy Ferguson and co-producer David Hopkins. The album which Billboard magazine states as “gorgeous,” “lush,” and “…an album to be listened to from start to finish.”
The threesome is back with new music, co-producing this next body of work with Austin Jenkins (Leon Bridges) and Jarrad Kritzstein (Ruston Kelly). With 13 songs completed,, you can expect a natural evolution and maturity with this new music, written or co-written entirely by the band. “Sunshine,” the first track from their upcoming album is available now on all DSP’s.”
Of the songwriting process, John says “On this particular day Jacob told us he wanted to write a song about a ray of sunshine that woke him up that morning from some broken blinds by his bed. I believe I had a classical guitar in my hand and started playing the basic first two chords of the song. The melody and lyrics naturally fell out for this one pretty quickly. Co-writer Joe Hertler went into his world and came out with pretty much the whole bridge, or section before the instrumental. As we got closer to production for recording, Bill Withers was sort of a beacon for us in terms of groove. He definitely inspired the beat to that song."
The band has toured domestically and internationally playing with St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Musgraves, the Wild Feathers, NEEDTOBREATHE, and BANNERS among others. They have played festivals such as Electric Picnic, Bonnaroo, Sloss, MOTM, and Hangout and to date have logged over 14 million streams organically as independent artists. Their 14.5M stream count to date is a testament to the independent band’s hard work and tenacity.
