The Breaking Pattern finds a balance between melodic, acoustic-driven, ambiance and an intensity derived from today’s modern indie rock. Fueled by flowery, introspective lyrics, the music creates an excitingly imaginative atmospheric-pop genre.
After acquiring a strong local following through earlier music projects, lead singer Derek Hackman joined forces with several prominent local musicians from across the Phoenix music scene to form The Breaking Pattern. In the Summer of 2015 The band emerged with a series of singles that were received with high praise from fans and critics alike, immediately going on to sell out their first several shows and amassing a large online fan base.
Their quick rising popularity caught the attention of producer Cory Spotts (Lydia, BlesstheFall, Greely Estates), leading the band to record a full-length album. The debut was a success and heralded as one of the top albums of the year by Phoenix New Times. National recognition began to pour in as well, with Huffington Post dubbing The Breaking Pattern as "the face of the Phoenix emo revival movement".
After performing a series of local headlines and southwest one-offs, the band returned to the studio in early 2017 to begin their follow-up EP. The album, aptly titled "…and Suddenly Nothing Becomes Everything", was recorded over a several month span with local up-n-coming producer Hiram Hernandez (The New Low, Hotel Books), and sent to mixing by Justin Hergett (Lady Gaga, Nick Jonas), with mastering done by Joe LaPorta (Imagine Dragons, X-Ambassadors). During this time the band acquired new management and began to set its sights toward the national stage.
With a flair for poetics, the band’s wordy lyrical stylings have carved a passionate, cult-like following from the emo revival and indie pop movements. Coupled with acoustic guitars and ambient soundscapes, the band calls back to a late 90s sound that explores new melodic territory and pushes the envelope on modern production trends. In all, the music lives up to the band’s self-described "atmospheric-pop" genre.
The band is currently preparing to release it’s follow-up EP, "…and Suddenly Nothing Becomes Everything", on October 20, 2017 through LEGEND Distribution.
