SAY THEIR NAMES
Read by Salam Fatayer

Last month we sent stations and programmers nationwide a recording entitled “Say Their Names”, a list of names of 100 victims who lost their lives to systematic racism and police brutality, because we know that saying these names is more important than just posting a hashtag.  In the spirit of John Lewis, we invite you to play this on-air in a provocative and nonviolent remembrance of Black lives lost to the racism and mass violence that remains prevalent in our country.

On July 17th, we lost John Lewis, a legendary civil rights leader and participant in Nashville sit-ins, Freedom Rides through the segregated South, and marches from Selma to Montgomery, and a speaker at the 1963 March on Washington.  He’d represented Georgia in Congress since 1987, having been re-elected 16 times.  For more information, The Daily, a New York Times podcast, provided an inspiring look at The Life and Legacy Of John Lewis this past Monday, July 20th.

If you’re looking for more ways to share information on racial and social justice issues, we’ve created social media posts relating to Juneteenth, Pride celebrations, the 4th of July, the history of Mt. Rushmore, and, most recently, on the Black origins of Punk Music. This folder is updated weekly, so please feel free to share the images and text on your personal social media feeds, and your stations.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to these stations for playing the “Say Their Names” audio recording on-air:
