Impacting Now

From his new album Don’t Let The Devil Ride

Available March 23

"This is the culmination of my whole life in music, coming back to my roots. My message on this album is ‘let’s get together’ – I want to help lighten your load and make you smile!"
– Paul Thorn

After a dozen roots-rock records, Paul Thorn reclaims his past by celebrating the first music he was ever exposed to. Don’t Let The Devil Ride combines strong influences stemming from Paul’s life experiences and his earliest musical influence: gospel.

Don’t Let the Devil Ride collects songs originally cut by black southern gospel groups, and features guests including the Blind Boys of Alabama, The McCrary Sisters, Bonnie Bishop and the Preservation Hall Horns. The album was recorded at two of the most iconic studios in America; at Sam Phillips Recording, and Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, where Thorn worked as a songwriter for legendary producer Rick Hall early on in his career. The new record marks Thorn’s first time recording gospel music and his creation of a body of strikingly original songs that address the foibles of human relationships without necessarily favoring the sacred over the profane.

"Thorn excels as a musical storyteller, delivering swampy, rollicking southern tall tales and character sketches in a drawl like John Hiatt run through a rock tumbler." – Nashville Scene

"The real deal comes along infrequently these days but Paul Thorn qualifies…he is Springsteen from Mississippi, Bob Seger singing Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kris Kristofferson backed by the Stones…" – San Francisco Chronicle
