Pop-infused indie rock quartet MONOWHALES release new single “RWLYD (Really Wanna Let You Down)” their first in over a year. RWLYD delivers the catchy, singable chorus with the definitive rock edge the band is known for.

“Really Wanna Let You Down” encapsulates the feeling of relief and empowerment from “pushing back”. Drummer Jordan Circosta explains, “Every step of the way we've dealt with pressure from people around us, the industry as a whole, and our own selves pushing us to sound a bit more like this, look a bit more like that, lose weight, change our hair, etc. Sometimes, the hardest expectations to contend with are those we place on ourselves.” Luckily, MONOWHALES have discovered how to turn negativity into creative fuel and maintain the drive to continue making music that is true to themselves.

Based in Toronto, the band exploded onto the scene with a DIY ethos and killer live shows. MONOWHALES first made waves with their breakout single “Home” in 2016 which quickly garnered 140K+ streams on Spotify, featured on some of the DSP’s most popular playlists. The POV-shot video of Shaar’s Toronto-based adventures went on to be viewed over 1M times and set the stage for the incredibly creative and clever videos the band has become known for. Last year’s EP Control Freakproduced by AL-P (Death From Above 1979, Young Empires) spawned multiple singles that received commercial radio play across Canada. The first single "Take It Back" was described by 102.1 the Edge as "the track that put them on the indie rock-map in Canada" after it rose to #25 on the Canadian Alternative Rock Radio charts. Follow-up singles "Real Love" climbed to #31 and third single "Let It Go" peaked at #32. There songs remained in the Top 50 of the Canadian National Alternative Rock Radio charts for over nine months in 2018. Additionally, MONOWHALES’ livestreamed performance at the Facebook Canada offices had an incredible 1M+ views.

MONOWHALES have headlined multiple tours in Ontario and Quebec, supported  popular artists such as Dear RougeK.FlaySloanMatt and Kim, and Coleman Hell. They have also performed at notable festivals including Festival d'été (Quebec City), Riverfest Elora, Yellowknife PRIDE, Liquid Arts Festival (Hamilton), and JUNOFest. The band recently showcased new material in Toronto to a sold-out Horseshoe Tavern crowd during Canadian Music Week 2019 and were awarded the Jim Beam INDIE Award for Best Alternative Artist/Group of the Year and the Forest City London Music Award for Ontario Independent Recording Artist. Having just completed a cross-Canada tour in support of "RWLYD (Really Wanna Let You Down)", the band is kicking off the new year with an appearance on the new Netflix series "Spinning Out" which is currently featuring four of their songs in Episode 5.

RWLYD is quickly gaining traction at radio, peaking at #13 on the Mediabase Alternative Rock Spins Chart and the BDS Modern Rock Chart in Canada with no signs of slowing down. The song has also been featured on Hockey Night in Canada and was hand-picked by Alan Cross as one of his 5 Songs You Must Hear This Week.

The formidable 4-piece is currently working with producer Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Brave Shores) on some new tunes. More information will be announced when available.
