Mikal Cronin will release Seeker, his fourth and finest full-length to date, on October 25th via Merge Records. In conjunction with the announcement, he presents the lead single / video, “Show Me.” In the video, directed by Yasi Salek, Cronin sings as he drives a 1964 Ford Falcon, while frequent collaborators and friends play instruments in the backseat.

“‘Show Me’ is a song about feeling small in an overwhelming world,” says Cronin. “There's a not-quite-subtle hint of the Heartbreakers in the instrumentation and arrangement, having asked many friends to play or sing. It's one of my favorite songs from the album, I hope you like it too."

Following a few rough years of touring, relationships beginning and ending, and writer’s block, Cronin decided to make a change. He packed up and retreated to Idyllwild, a small town in the mountains of southern California, where he spent a month in the cabin, alone. The solitude proved fruitful, with the bulk of Seeker being written and demoed during this time period. “It was so quiet and peaceful. I got weird looks at the store. I got bug bites that didn’t heal for months,” says Cronin. “I walked around a small lake a few times. I wrote. I took literally something that’s usually a hypothetical, something every artist thinks about doing. It worked.”

After a series of fires sparked by an arsonist forced Cronin to evacuate immediately, he returned a few days early to LA and began the recording process at Palmetto Studios. There, engineer Jason Quever and a crew of close friends helped bring the album together. The record was backed by Ty Segall’s Freedom Band. Nature fresh on his mind, he was driven to use organic sounds. “I wanted to bring you into the room. Jason and I talked about the Beatles’ White Album a lot when placing mics,” says Cronin. “I brought a charred pine cone from the woods to the studio, just in case it would help. Fire—specifically its cycle of purging and reseeding the landscape—is a central theme to the record. Death and rebirth.”
