“… a simmering blues-rock groove that allows Smith to work his guitar from a tiptoe to a full-on sprint, while Bell bellows the lovelorn lyrics." – Rolling Stone

First-call blues/rock guitarist G.E. Smith and revered soul/R&B singer-songwriter LeRoy Bell confirm the release of their new album Stony Hill (via BMG), the first collaboration for the dynamic duo. The eleven song collection chronicles an in depth look at where we stand as an American democracy without prejudice or presumption.

“I’ve been looking for a great singer for thirty years, at least – not just a good singer, but a great singer,” Smith recalled of first hearing Bell in 2018. “I said: ‘that’s the voice – that’s the one I’ve been looking for!’”

Bell’s distinctive vocals and Smith’s stellar guitar work bring a fresh urgency to the traditional ballad “Black Is the Color.” Watch the animated video by Art Director Gary Smith for the “Black Is the Color”:

Smith and Bell will also drop a striking and stark video for their vital new single “America,” directed by Taylor Barton. The song was produced by G.E. Smith and Taylor Barton and chronicles an in-depth look at where we stand as an American democracy in the age of Trump. The weighty nostalgic message is sweetened with an irresistible hook “God only knows how I miss those days, she only knows how I miss the way we were, America.”  Watch the video for “America”:

Bell says about the political nature of the song, “I stopped watching the news a couple of years ago when I couldn’t stand to be a silent witness to what was happening to this country. My country- America. I’m not naive to think that we as a nation haven’t tried to bury our sins at the expense of us all. My songs always reflect the way I feel and I’m fortunate to be able to share those emotions through my music.”

G.E. Smith's long list of guitar credits includes 10 years fronting the Saturday Night Live band (1985-1995), platinum albums and world tours with Daryl Hall & John Oates, Roger Waters, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and Tina Turner, and more recent performances with Jim Weider (The Band) and others as the "Masters of the Telecaster."

LeRoy Bell began his career as a songwriter and session player for many of the great Philly soul artists produced by Gamble & Huff and LeRoy's uncle, Thom Bell.  His band, Bell & James, hit the charts with "Livin' It Up (Friday Night)" and wrote "Mama Can't Buy You Love," Elton John's last top 10 single of the 1970s.  Millions of TV viewers later discovered his talents in the 2011 season of X-Factor.
