Fronted and lead by violinist and singer-songwriter Lucy Cantley, newly announced Calamity Jane is more than just a band. According to Cantley, it is a “collaborative group project featuring various artists.” Together, they create Calamity Jane’s signature folktronica sound—beautiful, folk melodies featuring the violin, interspersed with electronic elements and modern effects.

Cantley, originally from NJ, began playing classical viola at age 6. Her greatest musical accomplishments include touring Europe with the Princeton Orchestra as a featured solo artist, studying with renowned teachers from the Juilliard and Cincinnati Conservatories, and sharing the stage with the acclaimed artists Sarah Chang and Joshua Bell.

Moving to Nashville in 2017 to pursue more mainstream musical endeavors, Cantley quickly made a splash. Forming and leading the trio, TROIKA, at only a year old Cantley and team went on to win the renowned NashNext 2018 competition lead by Big Machine Label Group and Nash FM. Approached with a label offer shortly after the fact, Cantley chose to turn it down in pursuit of a more independent career.

Cantley’s further accomplishments include opening for Maddie & Tae, Travis Denning, Easton Corbin, Joe Diffie, Keith Anderson, and more.

Like it’s namesake, Calamity Jane shows incredible promise to challenge the status quo, and perhaps make a mark in history.
