Denver, Colorado-based producer Thoreau has had a banner year so far, dropping a remix with Bronze Whale and Popeska via CloudKid’s label (which went to #1 on Hype Machine), performing at Euphoria Music Festival, and racking up over 1 million plays on streaming platforms.

Thoreau’s new single "Illusion," a collaboration with talented singer Tina DeCara, shows off a new dimension to the trap artist. "Illusion" is an energetic trap song with robust synths and crisp percussion. The lush production and emotional vocals make for an epic tune . The single starts on a highly melodic foot, launching the listener into an almost spiritual world of clever synthesis and warm, echo-y vocals. "Illusion" punches listeners in the gut with a bout of heavy bass and guitar riffs that stimulate the mind and cause a visceral reaction.

Sometimes a vocal is the highlight in a lack-luster production, but Tina and Thoreau stand side by side and push forward with an incredible record. Thoreau’s work on this is fantastic, bringing a cool take on future bass to the table.

"Illusion" is Thoreau’s first original and comes as a strong follow up to successful remixes which include the likes of Drake’s "Girls Love Beyonce" and Trace’s "Low." Both are great representations of Thoreau’s signature sound: mellowed out future bass with a hint of soul.
