Shook Twins
"What Have We Done"

from the album Some Good Lives

out now on Dutch Records

Beginning in 2008, over the course of three albums and a handful of EPs, Shook Twins have enjoyed a broad range of acclaim from USA Today and Baeble Music to The Lumineers, Mason Jennings and novelist Neil Gaiman, who lauded them in the New York Times, saying “I love the harmonies of the Shook Twins, the dreamlike songs that seem somehow permeated by the American folk tradition, without actually being part of it. They make music that twines through your soul theway vines cover an abandoned shack in the woods.” Over the course of 2016, Laurie [banjo, vocals] and Katelyn [vocals, guitar] Shook wrote the songs that would become Some Good Lives with the presidential election playing out in the background. Inspired to think bigger than they had before, the girls paid homage to friends, mentors, loved ones, cherished relatives, even Bernie Sanders.

The album was recorded at Hallowed Halls in Portland, OR with a full band to expand their sonic palette [Barra Brown, drums; Sydney Nash, bass; Niko Slice, guitar and mandolin]. Laurie explains, “Once Barra, Sydney and Niko joined us, we really started to explore what our music could be. These amazing players helped us realize that we could be more than just ‘folk pop.’ We started adding other genres to the word like ‘disco,’ ‘psychedelic,’ ‘funk,’ and ‘soul.’ We really honed in on a new sound.”

“…sassy, spunky opening track “What Have We Done” is flush with brassy R&B that’s clearly and convincingly delivered.”-Relix

“…he Shook Twins’ party remains a party you’ll want an invite to.”-Paste

“The Shooks will Shake you. These ladies have been keepin’ it real since the day they were born and that was only seconds apart from one another I think. Do yourself a favor and check ’em out. I do declare, ya won’t be sorry.” – Langhorne Slim

“… it is refreshing to hear them go full Sly Stone and offer a biting slice of commentary on the way things are now. This is a song that encompasses how many of us feel now, and the Shook Twins tell it like it is while also making us want to dance. “-Glide
