Momentum: CM-B There
Every September, music industry professionals descend upon Orlando for an unforgettable week of debauchery and mayhem. Oh wait. Wrong convention. Actually, every September, music industry professionals converge on Walt Disney World for Momentum, Christian Radio Broadcaster’s premiere conference.
We spoke with Michelle Younkman, Executive Director of CMB. “We are excited to have 700 radio and record professionals flock to Disney World for Christian Music Broadcasters’ premiere event, Momentum (Sept 7 – 10). Our theme this year is Hello, future where we will encourage radio to embrace the changes in technology and prepare for the next generation. We approach what’s on the horizon with enthusiastic expectancy of how radio will break through the noise with a message of hope.”
As ever, this year’s four-day event will feature performances and a selection of speakers designed to challenge and inspire. Momentum 2016 will provide a focus on the future for Christian radio, encouraging the industry to embrace changes in technology. (Only then, it’s suggested, can said gospel be spread). This remains true to CMB’s general mission: to encourage, engage, and equip members to impact their communities.
Paul Jacobs, VP/GM of Jacobs Media is among those speaking at Momentum, and speaks with considerable perspective and experience regarding technology’s impact on the industry. Named GM of a major market station at just 28, Jacobs became GM of Jacobs Media 25 years ago, following years and call letters under his belt. Jacobs has conducted hundreds of presentations for clients include Ford Motor Company and Procter & Gamble, with a particular focus on marketing to younger consumers.
Jacobs joins fellow speakers John Foreman of Switchfoot, and Banning Liebscher, director at Jesus Culture. The movement is described as “awakening hearts to worship and demonstrate the love and power of God” and to “raise, equip, and mobilize those who were coming to fulfill the call of God on their lives through the ministry of conferences, events, worship, campus ministries, curriculums, resources and now a local church.”
Fitting, for sure, as CMB defines themselves as “bringing Christian media from around the world together for the purpose of reaching listeners with the Gospel message by developing and producing relevant programming that encourages listener interest in and involvement with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” 600 Members strong, CMB’s reach extends to an estimated 50 million listeners.
Not your typical convention, in addition to frolicking at Disney, Momentum features a generously flexible annual 5k and 1 mile run/walk. The itinerary also includes talent coaching sessions, available to both talent and Programmers, via “Air Check Clinics.” True to form, Momentum is here to help, offering the opportunity to become something of a tour guide to the event, via their mentor program. Attendees also have the opportunity to brush up, leadership style, by signing up for a session with Brian Burger, Executive Coach & Consultant with REFLECTNEXT.
